Chipping away at the debt!

After the wedding, I had approximately $14,000 in consumer debt! I am happy to say with some extreme frugalness and discipline (and some good bonuses), I have cut that number to just over $6600! I feel really accomplished, and I am hoping I can get H more motivated to pay off his debt (he is a spender). Wheee! At the rate I am going, I will have one card paid off by the end of August, and the other card paid off by March 2009, and if I get a second job, or earn any more bonuses, even sooner. Yay!

MS Fighter Squadron

I had the most awesome experience this last weekend walking a 10K to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research. Our team walked in honor of Chris Windisch - he is an amazing person who I had the pleasure of meeting this weekend. Our team outfits were based on camo and jets since Chris was a fighter pilot! It was very warm in Agoura Hills/Westlake Village, and I felt like I was burning up more than once, but it was a GREAT experience, which I will more definitely do again!

These are our awesome banners!

The whole team!

Chris holding our "Best Dressed" trophy! It must have been those fighter jets on pipe cleaners buzzing around our camo print hats!

Saying a few words before the walk. Very emotional!

And we're off!

I did run some of it (maybe a mile out of the 6.45 I ended up walking/running. Almost done... last water station!

The finish

Chris himself met me at the finish line and put my medal on for me - I felt so honored!!!!

Chris and his family were so supportive of our efforts, but it was truly my pleasure to walk in his honor to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is the epitome of courageous and is a wonderful human being. If you want to help find a cure for MS, please donate!!

Baby on the Brain

Yesterday afternoon I had a minor meltdown. I suddenly realized how freakin' old I am! I also had to suddenly come to grip with the fact that I DO wants kids! WTF did that come from? I don't even like most kids, and as much as I tell myself it's because of their parents, what if it's not? There are kids I like - H's cousin, friends kids, and any randomly quiet kid on the street. Is it really true that it's different when it's your kid?

I am no spring chicken (35 this summer). I waited a long time to find the right guy and get married. I also took a long time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I currently work in the hospitality industry, and the long hours, lack of work/life balance, and the food/alcohol that is always associated with work and work functions is just not healhty. I need more of a balanced, healthy life overall, which is why I want to be a Nurse. While I did not get into the Nursing progam for Fall 2008, I can apply again for Fall 2009. If I get in then, that means I would not graduate until Spring 2011. Had I gotten into school this Fall, I would have been 37 years old when I would be ready to try for a kid. Now, IF I get in for Fall 2009, I will be 38. And what if I don't get in that year?

H is pretty calm about it - truly believes it will happen when we are ready for it, and knows that are aren't ready now. I, on the other hand, am freaking out. I have never been pregnant. Does that mean I just have been extremely careful? Or does it mean I have issues? I guess time will tell. H was open to adoption too. I guess that's a plus.

So for now, nothing changes, except that I have to face the fact that I am up there in years, and that I want a child. Oh well, life goes on.

No dice on school

Did not get in. I know it is a very competitive program, yada yada yada. Still dissapointed, but now can relax about the paying portion.

I guess my blog will have to focus exclusively on running and debt reduction! Since I can still work, I will have this dagnabbit debt paid off my 2009, and I will be running the CDM 5K in June, and the Long Beach half marathon in October! I guess I'll need to choose a 10K somewhere in the middle :)

No Tiffany Necklace

Nike Half did not select our team. We have a 2 in 3 chance, and still no beans. I'm bummed out, but I am a little relieved since money is pretty tight right now, and a trip to San Fran was not in the budget. But I'm still really dissapointed.

So, that was my bad news of the day. We are working on what our next race will be, but the team seems to be divided, so I don't know that it will be the awesomeness that the Nike Half would have been.

So, now I wait on my school application. No word yet, but I expect to hear any day now. Nervous on this one as well.... I really want to get in, but the cost... well, I've bitched about it before. I am a really negative person, and I need to change this!
