Stupid Left Turn Lights

No, I'm not ready to talk about anything important. Other than I once again didn't get into the Nike Marathon. Major suckage. I'm going to have to run my butt off in May and see if I can win one through Nike+, and if not, I might have to consider fundraising again. Even though I was hoping to save that for a triathlon in a year or two.

But I digress. Today's post is supposed to be a random diatribe about something completely inconsequential. Well, maybe not completely inconsequential, because this issue wastes my valuable time.

Fucking left turn lights. Yes, I realize there are places where the gridlock gets bad, and you wouldn't be able to turn left without them. But where I live, in the bowels of suburbia, they are totally unnecessary. If I had a dollar for every time I sat at a left turn light to stare at the empty road ahead of me while I wait for the full light cycle to come around, I wouldn't be riding my old man's ass to get a job. I would be living in some awesome house with a view of the ocean in the central coast of California, drinking wine and living the good life. Instead, I'm wasting what is left of my 30's sitting at lights when I could have made the left hand turn 50 times over.

So why do these exist? When I started driving (you know, back in the Dark Ages) they were just barely putting them in. People had to figure out how to judge oncoming traffic in order to make their left hand turns. Apparently, the general population is far too stupid to figure that out. This also wouldn't be the first time my life has been adversely affected by stupidity. And I'm far too cautious to tempt a ticket by turning against a red light. I'm just screwed.

So, I will continue, sitting at red left turn lights, thinking about how I could have turned, backed up, done a doughnut, and turned again, cursing human stupidity and suburbia, all at the same time.

  1. Sounds like somebody could use a margy....or 4. xoxo

  2. I feel your pain. What I've never gotten is why not aleast make them left turn protected w/ arrow & yeild on green light. At least give me the option to go if there is NO on coming traffic. Its super annoying.

  3. Lindsay makes an excellent point.

I'm sad for you about Nike :( Bastards. I didn't get in when I entered to lottery 2 years ago. I was so disappointed. I think that was the dwindle of my running career. Stupid Nike.
