Pull PR Day! January 27, 2017

So... I seriously underestimate myself. Remember last week when I had a goal to pull 200 this year?

Then I thought, pull 220 would be a good goal.

I just pulled 225.

Front squat

trap, raised

190x1 (facetiming with my coach, no video)

When I first tried 225, I didn't gut it out, and I knew it. Gave myself a couple minutes and then I told myself to just keep pushing even if it felt heavy. OH and I ate Reese's puffs before the gym = PR.

Out of time. I will do abs at home tonight.

So, my new goal - 500 pound total. I'm not that far away!

OH and I forgot to tell you guys, a past training buddy from my marathon days was in town and I got to see her. Haven't seen her in forever. Her sister in law was there and was asking if we were training for any races. She pulls out her phone and goes on my IG and shows it to her, "This is what she's doing now." And the SIL looked at me kinda blankly, and then said, oh he does stuff like that" (talking about my friend's husbands cousin). The cousin had already rubbed me the wrong way, and he says "I do crossfit" Inside I was laughing, "OF COURSE YOU DO!"
That being said, I don't really think less of crossfitters, but I still thought it was funny.

Another busy weekend ahead! Looking forward to a couple days of rest, and hopefully this next storm doesn't pan out to be as big as they say. We are getting hammered. Hubs and I need to get out of town, and into the warmth somewhere. We are discussing all kinds of options, considering cost, recreation, and length of drive. We would love to get to the ocean, but that's a 6-7 hour drive. Maybe wine country on the westside, (4-5 hour drive), Vegas (5 hour drive), Reno (3 hour drive). Decisions, decisions.

Gym was EMPTY today, including the owner. :( Excuses, excuses. I want a spotting robot.

So, I was not feeling strong today. I don't know if it's because I didn't remember my PWO, I've shoveled too much, or I'm just generally tired. I'm trying to look at the positives - I flat benched 100 FIVE TIMES! Rather than the "I didn't do what I was supposed to do." I am happy with my arch (I think it's looking better!), I didn't have to do the roll of shame (because I didn't go that far out of my comfort zone but whatevs), and my butt is sore (squeeze the butt is now my go-to cue). I am choosing to see today as an accomplishment, rather than beat myself up. Next week is a new week, and I have to psych myself up for DL test day tomorrow. Ha, I should go find some caffeine tabs to keep by my bed tonight.

Regardless, I participated in this today:

It is such a small sacrifice in the big scheme of things to lift my tired arms and hold ski poles up as a symbolic thank you to those who risked their life for our country. It really makes me thankful for my life and my limbs to participate in this every year, as well as working for a company that does so much to help these brave men and women move forward in their life, learn new skills, be athletic, and enjoy the mountains.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Squats January 24, 2017

Back Squats

Close stance

wide stance-think wide

Seated Leg Curl

Seated Calf Raise

Air Bike

Snowpocalypse. I did not get to the gym Monday. I will show you why shortly. Messaging with Wade and asked if I should skip a workout, do two in a day or not space them out this week. He said he would rather me skip bench day than squat day because my bench is stronger than my squats. Huh? I have never thought of myself having a stronger upper body than lower  But I guess it's true. Regardless, I got my upper body workout

This was Sunday, going to the corner store, me on my snowshoes, hubs on his skis. Yes, we skied from home to the store and back.

This is our backyard - that stripe in the middle is a 6 foot fence.

The downstairs sheltered deck off of our bedroom. Don't think we'll be using it anytime soon.

Hubby walking from our front step to get the cars out

Before and after digging my car out

All that shoveling required refueling

The aftermath - views from my dog walk yesterday

2017 Goals

Sorry for my lack of posts - the holidays hit and I got carried away on a wave of work and personal, and here we are, a month later.

Anyway, I put this out into the universe today to try and win some swag. Sue me, I like free crap.
Goals for 2017:

1. Pull 200
2. Squat 150
3. Bench 120
4. Lose 20 lbs of fat.

I don't even know if those goals are too lofty, not lofty enough, or what. I think I'm too close to a 45 lb plate squat to make that a goal for the year, so I went higher. If I hit them early, then I raise them, right? But I'm not going to be focusing too much on my goals, honestly. Just going to do the work that Wade puts forth. And with my reading comprehension skills, sometimes I might be working harder or easier than he intended.

As anyone who is ever in my journal knows, I'm actively working on the first three. And as to the 4th, well.... I have yet to start really tracking calories, much less cutting. Maybe I'll get my act together sooner rather than later.

And on the theme of being a "real" powerlifter, I can't seem to get into the pre-lift stuff. The exaggerated prep, the theatrically huge breath, etc. I wonder if I need to, like am I not focusing enough? Am I not working my body into a tight rubber band pf power because I don't do these things. Would this help me? I've always been more of the quiet, "just get it done without attracting attention to myself" kind of person. I think I would feel weird. But probably no weirder than I feel asking for a spot.

Anyway, Squat day tomorrow. Wade gave me pauses. I'll try harder to post my workouts more regularly.
